Abstract
To determine which HLA antigens are associated with rheumatoid arthritis in korean, we studied the HLAA class II genotypes by the two-step polymerase chain reaction and HLA class I serologic typing by standard microlymphocytotoxicit technique in
115
patients with rheumatoid arthritis and 203 normal healthy controls.
@ES The results were as follows :
@EN 1. HLA-A, B, and C were not associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
2. The phenotype frequency of HLA-DRB1*04 was 65.2% in patient group and 32.5% in normal control group.
HLA-DRB1*04 was strongly associatd with rheumatoid arthritis(relative risk 3.89, P,0.05).
3. LHA-DQB1*01 was not associated with rheumatoid arthritis(relative risk 1.60, P>0.05).
4. HLA-DRB1*04 was also associated with rheumatoid arthritis(relative risk 3.59, p<0.001). but HLA DRB1*04 and DQB1*04 haplotype was the signficant positive linkage disequilibrium (haplotype frequency : 29.1% linkage disequilibrium : 0.016,
P<0.05).
It was concluded that HLA-DRB1*04 was strongly associated, simiar to other ethnic populations while DRB1*01 was not associated with rheumatoid arthritis in koreans
